Konzertbericht – The Dublin Legends
Am 7. November waren wir wieder einmal von den Dublin Legends nach Dreieich zum Konzert eingeladen. Eine gute Stunde vor Konzertbeginn hatten wir bereits das Vergnügen Paul Watchorn für ein Videointerview zu gewinnen. Dies ist, wie auch die mit Seán Cannon, Eamonn Campell, John Sheahan und Gerry O`Connor, bereits geführten Interviews online als Video erschienen.
Schon zu Beginn des Konzerts spürte man die knisternde Spannung in der Luft. Die Gründe dafür sind wohl sehr vielfältig. Zum einen ist es sicher die „normale“ Vorfreude und Anspannung aller vor so einem Konzert, zum anderen aber waren viele Gedanken sicherlich auch bei Eamonn Campell, der seit jeher ein begnadeter Gitarrist und Mitglied der Band war. Denn nicht einmal drei Wochen zuvor verstarb Eamonn leider nach kurzer Krankheit auf der Tour in Holland. Seán Cannon musizierte mit Eamonn über 30 Jahre Seite an Seite, seit dieser 1986 zu den Dubliners gestoßen war und dann auch bei den Dublin Legends einen wichtigen Part übernommen hatte.
Für mich sehr grandios, weil einfach menschlich und dennoch professionell, wurde dies thematisiert. Die Band sagte bereits nach den ersten Liedern ein paar Worte. Einleitend war die Information, dass sich bestimmt ein paar Anwesende über die Veränderung auf der Bühne wundern würden. Es folgte die Information des Versterbens mit ein paar wirklich echt und ehrlich gemeinten persönlichen Worten. Abschließend informierte die Band, dass es Eamonns Wunsch sei, dass sie weiterspielen sollen. Ganz nach dem Motto: „The Show must go on“. Und genau diesen Leitsatz begleitete die Dubliners und die Dublin Legends seit jeher. Die Musik ist ihr Leben und so lange es geht, wird gespielt. Shay Kavanagh wurde freundlich und sehr nett vorgestellt. Er spielte an diesem Abend für Eamonn und er besetzte die zweite Gitarre wirklich gut.
Bei Klassikern wie „Molly Malone“ und „Whiskey In The Jar“ feierten die Fans natürlich fleißig mit. Es wurde gemeinschaftlich gesungen, geschunkelt und geklatscht. Das Publikum genoss beispielsweise „The Ferryman“, „The Leaving Of Liverpool“, „The Wild Rover“, „The Fields Of Athenry“ und auch „The Hills Of Connemara“. Schon vor der Zugabe gab es Standing Ovations und es wurde munter gesungen, getanzt und gelacht. Um solche Erinnerungen festzuhalten, freuen wir uns über die Erlaubnis einzelne Videoaufnahmen verschiedener Songs online veröffentlichen zu dürfen.
Besonders schön war und ist es, dass sich die „alten“ Herren auch nach ungefähr zwei Stunden Konzert noch im Anschluss Zeit für ihre Fans nahmen und nehmen, Fotos machen, Autogramme geben und einen entspannten Smalltalk führen, der keineswegs allgemein und oberflächlich ist. Sie sind einfach ehrlich, echt und zudem eine unglaublich sympathische Truppe.
Bedanken möchten wir uns auch diesmal wieder bei dem Veranstaltungsteam vor Ort, welches trotz quasi ausverkauftem Haus, alles ermöglicht hat. Und natürlich möchten wir Rainer ganz lieb grüßen, der die Jungs immer sicher von A nach B kutschiert ;-)
Review – The Dublin Legends
On the 7th of november The Dublin Legends invited us once again to the gig in Dreieich. A good hour before the concert began, we had the pleasure to win Paul Watchorn for a video interview. It is published as an online video, like the Interviews we recorded before with Seán Cannon, Eamonn Campbell, John Sheahan and Gerry O'Connor. Already at the start of the concert you could feel the crackling tension in the air. There are probably very diverse reasons. On one hand, sure it is the „normal“ anticipation and tension of everyone before such a concert, on the other hand certainly many thoughts were with Eamonn Campbell, who always has been the gifted guitarist and member of the band. Unfortunately, not even three weeks ago Eamonn died after a short illness on the tour in Holland.
Seán Cannon has been playing with him side by side for more than 30 years since Eamonn joined the Dubliners in 1986. Later he played an important part in the Dublin Legends. For me it was grandiose how they thematized it, because it was simply human and yet professional. The band said a few words after the first songs. Introductory was the information that a few people would be surprised about the change on stage. It was followed by the information that Eamonn passed away, with some really genuine and honestly meant personal words. Finally, the band announced that it was Eamonn's wish, that they should keep going. Following the principle: "The show must go on". And this is exactly the guideline that always accompanied the Dubliners and the Dublin Legends.
The music is their life and they will play as long as possible. Shay Kavanagh was introduced in a friendly and very nice way. He played for Eamonn that evening and was playing the second guitar really well. Of course the fans celebrated with classics like "Molly Malone" and "Whiskey In The Jar". There was jointly singing, swaying and clapping. The audience enjoyed for example „The Ferryman“, „The Leaving Of Liverpool“, „The Wild Rover“, „The Fields Of Athenry“ as well as „The Hills Of Connemara“. Yet before the encore there were standing ovations and the audience sang along cheerfully, danced and laughed. For to treasure such memories, we are pleased about the permission to publish video recordings of different songs online. It was and is very nice that even after a concert of two hours the “old” men took and take time for their fans for taking photos, signing autographs and having a relaxed chat, which is by no means general or superficial.They are just honest, genuine and also an incredibly likeable band.
Again, we would like to thank the local organizers, who made everything possible despite having a sold out house. And of course we would like to say hello to Rainer, who always drives the boys safely from A to B.
